About this speaker
a.t. furuya (they, them, theirs) is a queer, trans, nonbinary, neurodivergent, Japanese American caregiver living on the traditional and unceded land of the Kumeyaay also known as Tipai-Ipai people in San Diego, CA. They are an organizer, educator, and advocate with over 20 years experience working in youth advocacy and education, disability, gender, racial, and economic justice movements. Previous non profit work experience includes the San Diego LGBT Center where they ran wrap around support services for trans youth. Following their passion for education, a.t. then worked at GLSEN national where they managed all youth programming including the national Day of Silence, revamping Changing the Game, a series of inclusive resource guides for K-12 physical education and sports, and professional development for educators and corporate partners. They hold a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Education.
